The Home Builders Association of Wilkes and Yadkin has presented two area students with the 2011 Joe Faw Scholarship Award. The $500 grants are offered to high school seniors enrolling in a construction or trades-related degree program at Wilkes Community College, or to a second-year WCC student.
For the second year in a row, one of the awards went to a Starmount High School senior...Jeremy Wishon of Boonville. Jeremy is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society, and has taken part in the Skills USA competitions in Greensboro. He is the son of Jerry and Tina Wishon. One of last year's winners was Amanda Brown...the first ever young lady to receive the Faw Award.
The second 2011 recipient is Luke Walsh of Millers Creek. Luke will start his second year at WCC this fall. He has already taken first place in cabinet making at an earlier state Skills USA event...and will travel to Kansas City in June to take part in national competition. Luke is the son of Bob and Rhonda Jarvis
